SIMCLUSTER ART PROJECTS THREAD, a Bluesky thread kept by norvid_studies, closed at 14:17 UTC on 8 October 2026, aged 224 days. The cause was length. By its last week it was 1,155 posts deep and the Bluesky app could no longer open the bottom of it on a phone. It was succeeded, on request, by THREAD 2.0.
It was born on the afternoon of 26 February with a modest brief, maybe something more organized
later but for now just to have an archive pre-assembled
. Within a quarter of an hour it held a mosaic
of mutuals' profile pictures, all abelcore but representatively
, a hex-tiling website, the promise
of all of fleetingbits' cats, and a note that contributions were welcome. The first reply from outside
came at 18:01. It was fleetingbits, promising even more wonderful boids.
What followed was 998 entries: 975 distinct works by 121 artists, filed at an average of 4.5 a day and never fewer than four in a week. The longest it ever went quiet was 5.1 days, in mid-April. Its busiest day was 26 May, with 27 works filed, in a week of 106. That was the week abeliansoup pointed the museum at its latest post.
It was mostly pictures (509) and moving pictures (387): boids, tilings, fluid simulations, cellular automata, games, maps, music videos, and more than one new way to read Bluesky itself. It ran close to live, with 84% of works filed within a day of being posted. It was also kept by someone who sleeps. Between 07:00 and 10:00 UTC the thread received nothing at all, on any day.
Its most-loved work was throng.cee.wtf,
a new way to browse bluesky
, with 8,215 likes, seven times the next.
Its most-filed artist was abeliansoup.bsky.social. At the other end,
50 artists appear exactly once.
It was one voice with a quiet chorus. norvid wrote 1,077 of its
posts, and 38 others wrote 78 between
them. They called it good and important work
and the thread that makes crow mode
impossible
. One wrote its an honor to be placed in the norvid hall
, and another
not a single dame project in this whole thread smh
. Three times, newcomers asked what it was
for. One of them was sent a paper.
It is survived by THREAD 2.0; by abeliansoup's museum; by
orb, which wraps its pictures around a sphere; and by a
thread listing its own duplicates (it filed 23 works twice). It is
also survived by 3 entries that point at posts which no longer exist, the
first of them pleorama's. 2 more posts arrived after the doors had
closed. abeliansoup had the last word on the matter: the great work must continue until it crashes on
all platforms, and then wetware BLITly.
